Modern Homo Sapiens represents one branch of a diverse pedigree of human-like creatures. The neanderthal went extinct and so did Homo Erectus and Homo Habilis before it. These and other hominids descended from a common ancestor that modern humans share with chimpanzees. How had this early ancestor evolved into different species of humanoids? They split into particular groups. Separated by geography, habitat, or psychology, members of these groups no longer intermixed. As a result, they evolved into different species, one of them being us, Homo Sapiens.
