After the European colonial era, globalization opened the world markets to Western consumption and technology. But because Western populations are aging, modern means of communication and transportation are helping the world’s poor to move to the West, tens of millions at a time. The economies of their homelands in Africa, Asia, Latin America and the Middle East have proven unable to provide their explosively growing populations with a meaningful future.
